July 2011 Meeting

The Greater Wheeling Chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) will hold its Wednesday, July 13, 2011 meeting at the White Palace at Wheeling Park, Wheeling WV. White Palace is located inside Wheeling Park at 1801 National Rd, Wheeling, WV 26003 (map via bing).

Speaker and Topic

For the past 2 years the GWC has volunteered in August to help with electronic recycling. Jack Cera of the Jefferson Belmont Regional Solid Waste Authority, will explain what happens to the electronics once they leave the area and are recycled.

Jack Cera was born and raised in Bellaire, graduated from Bellaire High School in 1974 and graduated Brown University in 1978.

Jack was elected to Ohio House of Representatives in 1982 and served in the House till 1996.

He was Assistant Director for Workforce Development, Belmont County Department of Job and Family Services and currently serves as the Director of the Jefferson Belmont Regional Solid Waste Authority.

He is the Vice President, Organization of Solid Waste Districts of Ohio.

Jack is involved in his community and volunteers for the Bellaire Park District, Bellaire Girls Softball, East Ohio Girls Softball, Belmont County Planning Commission and the Belmont County Port Authority Board

Jack and his wife Rebecca reside near Bellaire with their two daughters.

For his presentation, Jack will talk abou the Solid Waste Authority responsibilities under EPA plan and the electronics recycling program, the proper disposal of electronic items and the current EPA regulations. He will also update us on changes in the JB Green Team current electronics recycling program at Belco Works. Jack will also talk about weights collected, problems and educating the public about electronic recycling.

 

Event Schedule

We will meet on the first floor of the White Palace. Social time and registration will be from 5:30 – 6:00 p.m. The buffet style dinner will begin at approximately 6:00 p.m. and the presentation will start after the meal. Cost for the evening is $18.00 for AITP members, $10.00 for AITP student members, and $23.00 for guests.

We will have our 50/50 drawing and door prizes for those in attendance.
