The Greater Wheeling Chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) CompTIA will hold its Wednesday, December 13, 2017 meeting at the White Palace in Wheeling Park, Wheeling WV. The White Palace is located inside Wheeling Park at 1801 National Rd, Wheeling, WV 26003 .
Meeting Topic & Speaker
Anastasia Nixon – Technxn LLC and Second Chance Technology
Anastasia “Stacy” Nixon was born and raised in Wheeling, WV. She is married with four children, and owns and operates Technxn LLC and Second Chance Technology, a Social Enterprise, with her husband Jim. Stacy was a paralegal for several attorneys in Wheeling and the surrounding area from 2003-2009 and also worked as a proofreader at Williams Lea from 2010-2014. In 2014, she resigned her career to work full time with her husband at their computer repair shop.
Stacy holds an Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies, and also graduated Magna Cum Laude from Wheeling Jesuit University in 2016, where she pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Leadership and Development. Upon graduation, she began Second Chance Technology Corporation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, whose mission is to help disadvantaged community members gain access to Information Technology by refurbishing and recycling computers and thereby reducing the digital divide in West Virginia. Since the program’s inception in December 2016, Second Chance Technology has helped get 16 computers into the homes of families in the Wheeling community.
Stacy began researching the digital divide in West Virginia in 2014 as part of her degree requirements at Wheeling Jesuit University. She also researched recycling and refurbishing of computer equipment and how doing so not only helps families in need, but also the environment. The digital divide affects many people in our communities and prevents them from completing tasks that we take for granted. By creating Second Chance Technology, we are offering the tools necessary for those individuals wishing to become more productive members of society and helping children gain access to computers, all the while saving the computer equipment from being discarded in the landfill.
We will meet at the White Palace. Social time and registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. The dinner will be at 6:15 p.m. and the presentations will follow the meal.
Cost for the evening is $18.00 for AITP/CompTIA members, $12.00 for AITP/CompTIA student members and $23.00 for non-member guests. We will have our 50/50 drawing and door prizes for those in attendance.
